Penalty Changes – Retail Casual Employees

On 1 March 2020, the following changes in the General Retail Industry Award 2010 (GRIA) will take effect for casual employees:

	Weekday Evening (after 6:00pm) Penalty Rates (inclusive of casual loading)
Current	135 per cent
From 1 March 2020	140 per cent
From 1 October 2020	145 per cent
From 1 March 2021	150 per cent

 

	Saturday Penalty Rates (inclusive of casual loading)
Current	145 per cent
From 1 March 2020	150 per cent

Employers affected by these upcoming changes should be prepared in advance to avoid inadvertent non-compliance with the GRIA.
