The federal government has announced a forthcoming increase in Family Court and Federal Circuit Court fees as part of the 2015 Federal Budget.  The government expects to see an increase in revenue of some $87 million over four years from the increased fees.

Whilst the specifics of the increased fees are yet to be released, The Australian has reported that individual fees will rise by up to 50 per cent, including an increase of the filing fee for parties filing an Application for Divorce from the current level of $845 to around $1,200.

Exemptions from and/or reduced filing fees are currently available for those in financial difficulty or who qualify for a Commonwealth concession and there has been no indication from the government that this will change under the new pricing scheme.

The new fees are anticipated to come into force on 1 July 2015.
