On 1 October 2018, the Fair Work Commission, as part of its 4-year modern award review, made a decision[1] which will amend evening, Saturday and Sunday penalty rates under the General Retail Industry Award 2010. The original decision can be accessed here.
From 1 November 2018, the General Retail Industry Award 2010 will be amended to:
- increase casual employee penalty rates for weekday evening (after 6 pm) and Saturday work; and
- reduce all penalty rates for Sunday shiftwork.
Shiftwork for employees (other than baking production employees) refers to a shift that starts at or after 6.00 pm on one day and before 5.00 am on the following day.
Shiftwork for baking production employees refers to either (1) a shift that begins at or after 2:00 am and before 6:00 am or (2) a shift that begins before 2:00 am.
